My Go-To QA Checklist Before Every Release

Blog-AJ-5

Releases can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. In my early days, I often relied on memory or sticky notes for what needed to be tested. But after one too many last-minute scrambles, I started building a pre-release checklist — and it changed everything. Now, I don’t ship anything without walking through this list.

Checklists aren’t a sign of forgetfulness; they’re tools of consistency.

Gaurav M., Senior Software Tester

Here’s a peek into my QA checklist that I use before every go-live:

Smoke test the critical flows – If login, payment, or navigation is broken, the rest doesn’t matter.

Cross-browser & device testing – Chrome might be perfect, but Safari always surprises me.

Error messages – Are they clear, actionable, and not leaking sensitive data?

Responsive checks – Especially for user-facing tools — is the UI clean on mobile?

Retesting fixed bugs – Just because it's marked as “Done” doesn’t mean it's done done.

Logs & Console – No silent JS errors or flooded logs.

Rollback Plan Check – Can we revert quickly if something fails?

Having this checklist ensures that I don't miss out on the essentials and gives me confidence when signing off a build. It also helps in handovers and team consistency.
